X-Camp: Transforming Pesantren with IoT HydroponiX!
10 October 2024
PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) has successfully implemented its Internet of Things (IoT) solution for hydroponic farming at Pesantren Tholabie Classic International Boarding School (CIBS), Malang, East Java. This initiative is part of the Digital Pesantren program aimed at advancing digital solutions across various Islamic boarding schools. The hydroponic IoT solution, developed by XCamp, offers advanced monitoring and control systems for key environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, and nutrient levels. This system allows pesantren administrators to remotely manage and optimize the hydroponic setup through real-time data analytics, enabling efficient growth and sustainable farming.
The IoT solution not only automates the monitoring and adjustment of essential factors like pH and nutrient concentration but also includes features for automatic feeding and watering, minimizing human error and ensuring optimal plant health. This results in consistent and enhanced productivity compared to traditional manual methods.
According to Dodik Ariyanto, Group Head of XL Axiata East Region, the deployment of the IoT hydroponic system has significantly increased crop productivity by more than double. “Previously, manual measurements were prone to inaccuracies and delays in adding nutrients, which affected plant growth and productivity. Now, with the IoT solution, everything is monitored and managed efficiently, ensuring better crop consistency and yield,” he explained.
This initiative reflects XL Axiata’s commitment to empowering local communities through technology, providing valuable resources for the advancement of digital literacy and agricultural innovation in pesantren across Indonesia. The hydroponic IoT system is also in line with XL Axiata's broader mission of supporting economic empowerment and sustainable development for pesantren and their surrounding communities.
In addition to CIBS Malang, XL Axiata has also implemented similar IoT solutions in various other pesantren, including Hidayatulloh in Depok, Al Idrisiyah in Tasikmalaya, and KH Mas Mansur MBS in Brebes. Through this initiative, XL Axiata is not only equipping pesantren with the tools needed to adopt modern agricultural practices but also fostering digital transformation that enhances the overall education and skills of the students and local communities.
By integrating technology into traditional agriculture, XL Axiata aims to promote sustainable farming practices, create new economic opportunities, and build a stronger digital ecosystem for pesantren across the nation.
